Salk: The forgotten Seahawks conversation about Jalen Milroe

As the Seattle Seahawks get back on the field this week, we talk about all the usual suspects.

But there’s one that’s easy to forget about, and it’s one that we were having a lot more about a year ago.

Where’s Jalen Milroe?

This guy’s got a significant talent. He can run as well as anybody else on this team, probably about as well as anybody else in this league, and certainly anybody who plays that quarterback position.

The Seahawks were so intrigued by him last year that they wanted him out on the field during the first couple of games, even just for a snap or two, just because he’s got this one skill set that you can’t teach and is really, really hard to find.

It obviously went away over the course of the season as Sam Darnold cemented himself as the starter, as somebody that you just could not take off the field given the season that he was having. And quite frankly, Milroe didn’t do himself any favors by not playing particularly well and making it feel like the game sped up on him in those couple of plays that he got.

But what are you going to do with him now?

You’re going to carry three quarterbacks again, I would think, with him and Drew Lock behind Darnold. I don’t think they’re going to trade him anytime soon.

Is there an opportunity to get him back on the field again? I hope so. I mean, it’s not that I’m looking to take Sam Darnold off the field. I get it. There’s no reason to mess with success. But Milroe does bring that skill set, and I would love to see some ability to take advantage of it.

I don’t know what that is and I’m not going to pretend that I do. I really think it’s going to be a challenge because Sam Darnold has proven himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league, and unless he starts to struggle, there’s no reason for him to ever come off the field.

But I sure would love to know what they have in store or what they believe Jalen Milroe could be eventually, because that talent has not gone anywhere.
