Montorie Foster Jr. tells parents he made Seahawks’ roster in ‘Hard Knocks’ clip

Second-year wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr.’s rapid ascent up the depth chart was the surprise story of the summer for the Seattle Seahawks.

After spending most of last fall out of the NFL and working as a high school substitute teacher, Foster emerged as a training camp standout this summer and shined during the preseason.

And on Sunday, Foster’s stunning ascension earned him a spot on Seattle’s initial 53-man roster.

HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” which has documented Foster’s rise throughout camp, captured the 25-year-old wideout calling his parents to share the news. “Hard Knocks” released a clip of the conversation on social media ahead of Tuesday night’s series finale (click here to watch if the video doesn’t appear below).

“I’m crying right now,” Foster’s mother said.

“Oh my goodness, it really didn’t hit me yet,” Foster replied while sitting on a dock along what appears to be Lake Washington. “It feels like I’m dreaming. Y’all know the whole journey, everything, just going undrafted and just having that night.

“That was the worst night of my life, but I just kept working, and shoot, now we here, and we just on the come up, for real. So just gotta keep going.”

Foster then thanked his father.

“Dad, I appreciate you for everything, for real,” Foster said. “Like, you really helped me so much just to stay in it and keep grinding. Like all the work is paying – I’m trying not to cry. Like, now it’s hitting me a little bit.”

“It’s tears of joy,” Foster’s father replied. “Oh my God. Lord have mercy.”

“Man, that’s crazy,” Foster said. “I did it.”
