Roster Moves: Mariners re-assign Kade Anderson to minor league camp

The Seattle Mariners whittled their spring training roster down to 48 players on Saturday, which included sending top pitching prospect Kade Anderson to minor league camp.

Anderson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, was among seven players included in the Mariners’ roster moves. The club also optioned left-handed reliever Robinson Ortiz to Triple-A Tacoma and re-assigned right-hander Randy Dobnak, right-hander Guillo Zuñigo, catcher Brian O’Keefe, infielder Will Wilson and infielder Patrick Wisdom to minor league camp.

Seattle’s spring roster is now at 48 players, with 34 from the 40-man roster, 13 non-roster invitees and one on the 60-day injured list.

The 21-year-old Anderson made his final start in big league camp on Friday night against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings. In three total spring outings, the left-hander posted a 6.43 ERA with five runs, seven hits and three walks allowed and struck out nine over seven innings of work.

Anderson is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the organization and 21st in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline.

Ortiz, a 26-year-old acquired in a trade with the Dodgers last November, allowed five runs on six hits and two walks and struck out five in 4 2/3 innings over six spring games.

Dobnak, 31, signed a minor league contract with the M’s in November. He allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 15 hits and struck six over 6 2/3 innings in four spring games.

Zuñigo, 27, recently returned to the M’s after pitching for Colombia in the World Baseball Classic. He made three appearances in big league camp, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over 2 1/3 innings. 

O’Keefe, a 32-year-old who returned to the organization on a minor league contract in January, went 1 for 6 with five walks and two strikeouts in seven spring games.

Wilson, a former first-round pick, signed a minor league contract with Seattle in January. The 27-year-old infielder hit .273 (6 for 22) with two doubles, an RBI, five walks and five strikeouts in 17 spring games.

Wisdom, who hit 23 or more home runs for the Cubs in three straight seasons from 2021-23, also signed a minor league deal with the organization in January. The 34-year-old hit .242 (8 for 33) with two homers, a double, seven RBIs, a walk and 17 strikeouts in 11 spring games.
