Cal Raleigh hits 3 homers as M’s tee off on Phillies

The star Seattle Mariners catcher has been showing some signs of progression at the plate of late. On Monday night, he showed the best sign yet.

Raleigh clubbed a career-high three home runs – his first multi-homer game since hitting his 59th and 60th of the season in 2025 – as the Mariners teed off on the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies with five longballs in a 9-2 win in Monday’s series opener at T-Mobile Park.

The Mariners improved to 63-69 and remained three games back of first place in the American League West, which was taken over by the Texas Rangers on Monday night, and three games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the AL’s final wild-card berth. The win snapped the Phillies’ nine-game win streak.

Raleigh homered in the first, fifth and seventh innings, with two of those coming off three-time All-Star Zack Wheeler. His first came on a fastball up in the zone that the slugging catcher hit for a towering two-run blast to right field. The second homer was a solo shot to right-center field on a cutter Wheeler left over the middle of the plate. And he capped his big night with a solo homer to right field off reliever Chase Shugart that was just out of the reach of leaping right fielder Bryce Harper.

All three of Raleigh’s homers came from the left side of the plate.

Raleigh became the first Mariner to ever hit three homers in a game at T-Mobile Park. The last Mariner to hit three homers in a home game was Edgar Martínez during a game at the Kingdome on May 18, 1999.

The three-homer night came exactly 11 months after Raleigh reached the 60-homer milestone on Sept. 24, 2025.

Julio Rodríguez was the first Mariners hitter to get to Wheeler. The center fielder launched a three-run homer into the Phillies’ bullpen in left field, his 20th of the season.

The 25-year-old Rodríguez has now hit 20 homers in each of his first five seasons. He needs four more stolen bases for his fifth straight season with at least 20 homers and 20 stolen bases.

Cole Young provided Seattle’s fourth and final homer off Wheeler, going back-to-back with Raleigh in the fifth a solo shot to right field.

The four homers and eight runs allowed by Wheeler each matched career highs. He lasted four innings and fell to 10-5 on the season.

Logan Gilbert (11-7 record) pitched five solid innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks and struck out five.
