Seahawks make their move at RB ahead of NFC Championship

The Seattle Seahawks made some roster moves on Friday, activating a pair of notable players ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams.

Seahawks-Rams: Three numbers that matter for NFC Championship

The most expected of the moves was the placement of Zach Charbonnet on injured reserve. Charbonnet, Seattle’s No. 2 running back, played a huge role in the recent success of the Seahawks’ run game but suffered a season-ending knee injury in last week’s NFC Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Taking Charbonnet’s place is George Holani, Seattle’s No. 3 running back. The Seahawks have activated Holani from IR, signaling that he is ready to play Sunday after recovering from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since late November. Holani was designated to return to practice on Wednesday and was listed as a full participant for Seattle’s practices on both Wednesday and Thursday.

“George is in great shape,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday. “He’s been working his tail off. We’re excited to get him out there.”

Injury Report: Seahawks’ Darnold, Cross good to go vs. Rams

An undrafted second-year pro out of Boise State, Holani has 73 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries this season. He also has two receptions for 15 yards and 16 kick returns for 387 yards.

Also returning from IR is rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo, who had his own 21-day practice window opened on Jan. 7 when he was designated to return. Arroyo, a second-round pick out of Miami, has 179 yards and a touchdown on 15 receptions in 13 games this season. He landed on IR with a knee injury in early December and has been a full participant in practice this week.

Making room for Arroyo on the active roster is rookie guard Bryce Cabeldue, a sixth-round pick out of Kansas who has been limited in practice this week with a knee injury. Cabeldue has played in eight games this season.

Kickoff of Sunday’s NFC Championship between the Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams is set for 3:30 p.m., with radio coverage starting with the pregame show at noon on Seattle Sports 710 AM, KIRO Newsradio 97.3 FM, and the Seattle Sports, KIRO Newsradio and official Seahawks apps.
