The Seattle Seahawks designated rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo to return to practice Wednesday off injured reserve.
Arroyo, who missed the final four games of the regular season with a knee injury, will have two weeks of practice to prepare for Seattle’s NFC Divisional Round playoff game on Jan. 18 or 19 following the team’s first-round bye.
Stacy Rost: Who is the Seahawks’ most likely playoff opponent?
The Seahawks have up to 21 days before they either need to place him on the 53-man roster or put him on season-ending IR.
Arroyo, a second-round draft pick out of Miami, totaled 15 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown in 13 games this season. With impressive speed and athleticism for his 6-foot-5, 254-pound frame, Arroyo would add another field-stretching threat for the Seahawks as they take aim at their first Super Bowl in 11 years.
If Arroyo returns for the playoffs, Seattle would have each of its top three tight ends for the first time since Week 7. Top tight end AJ Barner played all 17 games, but veteran No. 3 tight end Eric Saubert missed six games with a calf injury before returning the same week that Arroyo landed on IR.
