Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald ‘can’t wait’ to work with new team owners

Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald talked to reporters Thursday for the first time since Wednesday’s vote by NFL owners to approve the team’s sale to a group led by the Khosla family. As you might expect, the new owners were a hot topic during the press conference.

Macdonald led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl win last season in just his second year as a head coach, and clearly there was support from the ownership group at the time, which was led by team chair Jody Allen, the sister of late owner Paul Allen who also is trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust.

So how does he feel with the change in leadership at the very top going into his third season?

“I for one can’t wait to work with them from what they feel like they can offer right now,” Macdonald said. “So I want to go. It’s exciting.”

While Macdonald didn’t get specific, he said the Khoslas have shared a bit about the roles they will play with the team and said he’s looking forward to working with them on “the things that they have expertise in right now.”

“It’s gonna be a team effort. The Khoslas have kind of explained how they’re intending to operate in terms of timeline,” he said. “… I think the way that we’ve gotten to this point is we realized we don’t have all the answers and we try to find the best ones. And those answers can come from anywhere. So I think it’s going to be fun to develop that relationship and try to see where we can take our club.”
