The first day of the legal tampering period of NFL free agency was quiet for the Seahawks, though that doesn’t necessarily mean it was completely boring for Hawks fans.

Why a Russell Wilson trade would have ‘domino effect’ on Hawks’ roster

The were no reports heading into the evening about the Seahawks adding or even re-signing players, but a few big names they may have had interest in were taken off the board, and a pair of skill position players who were with them in 2020 have reportedly found new homes.

No moves can be made official until unrestricted free agency begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday, but for now, here’s a look at what was reported Monday that relates to the Seahawks.

Carlos Hyde to Jacksonville

The Seahawks don’t have a lot of backfield depth on their roster as it stands, especially with Chris Carson entering free agency. While Carson remains the best running back available after Aaron Jones re-signed with the Packers, it appears Carlos Hyde, who was Carson’s backup in 2020, is leaving Seattle after one season.

With Hyde reportedly going to Jacksonville, he will join a growing list of former Seahawks names now with Urban Meyer’s Jaguars, including ex-offensive coordinators Brian Schottenheimer and Darrell Bevell, former special teams coordinator Brian Schneider, and another name we’ll get to in just a second.

Hyde, 30, rushed for 356 yards and four touchdowns on 81 carries (4.4 yards per carry) in 10 games for Seattle. He was a 1,000-yard rusher for the first time in his career in 2019 when he was with Houston.

Phillip Dorsett also heading to Jags

The other name reportedly leaving Seattle is also going to Jacksonville: wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, who joined the Hawks on a one-year deal last offseason but never made it on the field due to a foot injury that took him out of action in training camp.

The 28-year-old Dorsett is known for his speed, but it’s to be seen how he’s impacted in 2021 by the foot injury that required surgery last season.

Seahawks not a factor on big O-line targets

The early news of the day wasn’t necessarily a surprise when it comes to the Seahawks, but it may have been disappointing nonetheless. While quarterback Russell Wilson has been clear this offseason about wanting better protection, it won’t come from All-Pro center Corey Linsley or two-time Super Bowl champion guard Joe Thuney. Linsley is reportedly leaving the Packers for the Chargers, while reports have Thuney going from New England to Kansas City.

It’s highly unlikely the Seahawks were willing to pay anything close to what those two players are getting. According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, San Diego is giving Linsley $62.5 million over five years to make him the highest-paid center in the league, while ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted that Thuney is getting even more – $80 million over five years.
