Wyman: What went wrong and right for Seahawks secondary vs Minnesota

Dec 5, 2019, 11:20 AM | Updated: 4:20 pm

The Seahawks are 10-2 after a 37-30 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football, and the team could have won in a even more decisive fashion had it not been for some crucial mistakes.

O’Neil’s 3 Questions: Will Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett get back to full speed?

Dave Wyman, Seahawks radio color commentator and host of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Dave and Moore, saw five plays that contributed to 21 Vikings points in very different ways.

One of those plays was when Russell Wilson tried to spike a deflected pass into the ground, but instead it was caught and returned for a touchdown by Vikings safety Anthony Harris.

There were also three plays on the Vikings’ first drive where Minnesota got 67 extra yards because of three missed tackles by Seattle.

The fifth play, which Wyman breaks down in his weekly Football 101, had a blown coverage by the Seahawks that resulted in a 59-yard touchdown by Laquon Treadwell.

Wyman says based on the play, it looked like one side of the field was playing one type of coverage while the side that Treadwell was on was playing another coverage. Additionally, one of the safeties appeared to jump a route by the tight end shortly after the cornerback let the receiver pass him, setting up an easy touchdown pass.

Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs had one of the missed tackles on the earlier drive and made up for it later with a big hit on Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr., which Wyman also highlights in his video.

Linebacker K.J. Wright cornered the tight end and after some dancing around, Smith was blasted by the Seahawks safety, who came up from 17 yards away to make the big play. It was a favorite of head coach Pete Carroll and retired Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor, who showed his appreciation for the hit on his Twitter account.
