It marks the first time the Seahawks have been the subject of HBO’s long-running NFL documentary series, which will chronicle the reigning Super Bowl champions at training camp over the course of five weekly episodes as they gear up for the 2026 season.

What stood out from Tuesday’s premier? Here’s a look.

The full Mike Macdonald

Most NFL fans know Mike Macdonald as the defensive wizard behind the Seahawks’ top-ranked scoring defense. But an underrated part of the 39-year-old head coach’s rapid success in Seattle has been his ability to connect with players and build a tight-knit culture.

That side of Macdonald was front and center throughout Tuesday’s premier. Perhaps no better example was the genuine one-on-one conversation he had with injured star Nick Emmanwori, who is resorted to pedaling around on a scooter as he rehabs from recent ankle surgery.

Emmanwori was worried how he’d look in front of fans in his current state, but Macdonald shared some insight on not worrying about what others think.

“It’s like someone talking (expletive) about you on Twitter. It’s gonna go away in like 15 seconds. Everything will pass. … People’s versions of me and what they think of me, is not me. So it’s like, I’m OK with that.”

‘Where can we take this thing?’

The show’s overarching storyline was easy to predict: The Seahawks sit perched atop the NFL mountaintop, and now they’re embarking on the even more difficult challenge of repeating.

But as Macdonald stated earlier this spring, the Seahawks aren’t trying to run it back. Instead, they’re taking a “run it forward” approach. That mantra was evident on several occasions in Tuesday’s premier, including a speech from Macdonald during a team meeting at the start of camp.

“This is the best time of year,” Macdonald said. “I actually just got a little, like, what do they call them, goosebumps? But like, if you don’t feel that, to me that’s like, I don’t think that’s enough stretch in your imagination and your faith to see where you can actually go.

“We’re all new. Like, the 2026 Seahawks is a new team. To me, that’s exciting. Like, where can we take this thing?”

Tuesday’s premier also introduced several other subplots – including star cornerback Devon Witherspoon’s ongoing contract negotiations, rookie first-round draft pick Jadarian Price’s quest to help replace departed running back Kenneth Walker III, and Sam Darnold entering the season on the firmest footing of his nine-year NFL career.

Smoothing the waters

Speaking of Witherspoon’s contract negotiations, there was a cut of general manager John Schneider explaining to Macdonald that a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had caused some frustration in Witherspoon’s camp.

Rapoport reported on July 22 that the Seahawks had “made an extraordinary effort” to get a deal done that would likely make Witherspoon the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback, but that Witherspoon’s camp hadn’t accepted yet. Schneider implied in his conversation with Macdonald that the report was inaccurate, but said he had to call Rapoport to relay to Witherspoon’s agent that the report didn’t come from the team.

Schneider then explained that Seahawks vice president of player affairs Maurice Kelly met with Witherspoon to iron out any concerns and that the situation has apparently been resolved. “He gets it,” Schneider said of Witherspoon. “He’s in a good spot now.”
