Which Seahawks defender has the most Hall of Fame potential?

Multiple players from the Seattle Seahawks’ legendary 2010s “Legion of Boom” defense will likely reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Cornerback Richard Sherman and linebacker Bobby Wagner seem like virtual locks, while safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor could also find themselves in the mix.

But what about the Seahawks’ current “Dark Side” defense? Do the reigning Super Bowl champions have any defensive stars capable of producing a Hall of Fame-worthy career?

There are several talented, young, intriguing candidates: cornerback Devon Witherspoon, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II and safety Nick Emmanwori. All three seemingly have the potential to be among the best players in the NFL at their respective positions for an extended period of time.

According to Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Frank Schwab, Witherspoon stands out the most.

“If there’s somebody who’s going to make the Hall of Fame out of this defense, it might be Devon,” Schwab told Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob. “He needs a little more PR. I think he needs maybe a funny nickname or something, because I don’t think people really realize how good he is. He’s tremendous.”

Witherspoon has been a Pro Bowler in each of his first three seasons since the Seahawks drafted him with the No. 5 overall pick in 2023. Along the way, he’s showcased his wide-ranging skill set while making plays all over the field at outside corner, the nickel corner spot and around the line of scrimmage.

Witherspoon has totaled two interceptions, 32 pass breakups, 4.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles over his three-year career. Among cornerbacks over that span, he’s tied for the third-most sacks, tied for the fourth-most tackles for loss and tied for the third-most quarterback hits, according to Stathead.

In 2025, Witherspoon was Pro Football Focus’ top-graded cornerback during the regular season. He then starred in Seattle’s Super Bowl triumph, recording a sack and three QB hits – including a punishing fourth-quarter blow that resulted in Uchenna Nwosu game-clinching 45-yard pick-six.

Witherspoon is expected to soon sign a massive extension with Seattle that makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

“He’s so versatile,” Schwab said. “He’s a perfect, perfect fit for Mike Macdonald. He can really do it all. He’s just been a good player for Seattle from the time he was drafted.”
