What Bump learned about the Seahawks in Week 1
“We found out that this team is deep – deep enough to beat the defending AFC champions," Michael Bumpus said.

It came down to the final minute, but the Seattle Seahawks left Lumen Field on Wednesday night with a season-opening 13-10 victory over the New England Patriots during a Week 1 Super Bowl rematch.

After trailing 10-3 entering the fourth quarter, the Seahawks rallied to take the lead and held on thanks to Josh Jobe’s interception in the end zone with 21 seconds remaining.
Seattle’s win featured key contributions from some of its well-known players. Jaxon-Smith Njigba caught eight passes for 122 yards and the team’s lone touchdown. Safety Julian Love had an interception, two tackles for loss and one pass defended. Leonard Williams and Derick Hall each had a sack. And Uchenna Nwosu had a tackle for loss and an impressive pass breakup.
But there were also less-heralded members of Seattle’s roster who came through with big performances. Third-year cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett had a pair of pass breakups and the first of the defense’s three interceptions in the fourth quarter. Jobe had the game-sealing pick. And backup quarterback Drew Lock delivered a solid performance in relief of injured starter Sam Darnold.
When discussing what he learned about the Seahawks in Week 1 on Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy, Seahawks Radio Network analyst and former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus pointed to how they got contributions from everyone on the roster, particularly the role players and reserves.
“That 70-man roster is real. It’s a real thing, man,” Bumpus said. “Nehemiah Pritchett… was a guy that was questionable. We didn’t know about Nehemiah. He was only a special-teams guy. He was active some weeks, he wasn’t active other weeks (in past seasons). He showed up and showed out, man, had an interception and two passes defended…
“Rodney Thomas (played) a few plays on special teams with the Colts last year, was on (the Seahawks’) practice squad (and) had to get elevated (for the season opener). He went out there and played some solid ball. Rylee Mills, a guy who we were finally starting to see, he had a (tackle for loss).
“… These are names that no one really talks about, but this is why coach talks about that 70-man roster because you are going to count on some of these guys. So, it’s real. After the first week, we found out that this team is deep – deep enough to beat the defending AFC champions – and that’s important because you need these dudes.”
