Devin Hester met with the media following his first practice with the Seahawks on Wednesday, a day after signing with Seattle to be the team’s punt and kickoff returner for the playoffs.
Hester said he was close to signing a deal with the Patriots after he was released by Baltimore last month, but that the deal fell through when New England instead claimed wide receiver Michael Floyd off waivers from Arizona.
Hester said that when he arrived at Seahawks headquarters, he jokingly thanked coach Pete Carroll for finally giving him a scholarship, explaining that USC was the only school to not offer him one coming out of high school in south Florida.
