Several franchise records within reach for Seahawks in finale

In addition to the game's massive stakes, the Seattle Seahawks could break multiple franchise records with a win over the 49ers.

The Seattle Seahawks are set for one of their biggest regular-season games in franchise history.

Saturday night’s Week 18 showdown between the Seahawks (13-3) and the San Francisco 49ers (12-4) is as high-stakes as it gets for a non-playoff game, with the winner claiming both the NFC West title and the NFC’s No. 1 seed.

Seahawks-49ers Preview: What to know about this seismic showdown

For the Seahawks, that means they’re playing for their franchise’s 12th division title and their fourth-ever No. 1 seed – the latter of which comes with both a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. All three of Seattle’s trips to the Super Bowl (2005, 2013 and 2014) came as a No. 1 seed.

In addition, the Seahawks have a chance to reach 14 wins for the first time in franchise history. That’s one of several franchise records and individual milestones within reach for Seattle on Saturday night.

NOTES: All win totals, stats and potential milestones below are for the regular season only. The NFL expanded its regular season from 16 to 17 games in 2021.

Team milestones

• With a victory, the Seahawks would reach 14 wins for the first time in franchise history. The 2025 Seahawks are already just the third team in franchise history to reach 13 wins, along with the 2013 Super Bowl-winning team (13-3) and the 2005 NFC title-winning team (13-3).

• With a victory, the Seahawks would finish a franchise-best 8-1 on the road, which would surpass their current franchise-best 7-1 mark from 2024 and 2019. That would also make Seattle just the 12th team in NFL history with eight road wins in a season. Ten NFL teams have finished 8-0 on the road and one has gone 8-1.

• With a win by 6 points or more, the Seahawks would surpass their franchise-best point differential of plus-186, set by the 2013 Super Bowl-winning team. Seattle’s current plus-181 point differential is tied with the 2005 NFC title-winning team for the second-best mark in franchise history. The Seahawks have already set a franchise record with 470 points this season.

Individual milestones

• Jaxon Smith-Njigba currently leads the NFL with 1,709 receiving yards, which ranks 14th on the league’s all-time single-season leaderboard. Smith-Njigba is 255 yards away from Calvin Johnson’s NFL single-season record of 1,964 receiving yards, so that’s almost certainly out of reach.

However, JSN can still make a big jump up the leaderboard. He needs 37 receiving yards to move into the top 10, 125 yards to climb into the top five and 162 yards to finish in the top three. (That’s assuming Smith-Njigba finishes ahead of Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua, who is second in the NFL this season at 1,639 receiving yards.)

• With a victory, Sam Darnold would join Tom Brady as the only two quarterbacks in NFL history to reach 14-plus wins in back-to-back seasons. Darnold went 14-3 with the Minnesota Vikings last season, while Brady went 14-2 in 2003 and 2004.

• Jason Myers has made 39 field goals this season, which currently places him in a five-way tie for the sixth-most field goals in a season in NFL history. Myers needs two more field goals to match Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell (41 in 2024) for the second-most in league history. The NFL record is 44, set by former 49ers kicker David Akers in 2011.

Seahawks-49ers kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday, with radio coverage on Seattle Sports beginning at 2 p.m. with the pregame show.

As noted, this would be in a 17-game season. It’s a bummer things do come with that asterisk. I am a lifelong Mariners FAN, but I still side-eye the 116 win season - the Cubs are, to me, the real record holder there. But these are still impressive feats!
