Seahawks set franchise record with 12th straight win

Even without their starting quarterback, the Seattle Seahawks just keep winning.

With backup Drew Lock starting in place of injured Sam Darnold, the Seahawks routed the Arizona Cardinals 31-7 on Sunday and set a franchise record with their 12th straight victory, a streak that includes last year’s run to a Super Bowl title.

Seattle’s previous franchise-best streak was 11 straight wins from Weeks 5-16 during its 2005 NFC title-winning campaign.

The Seahawks closed last season on a 10-game win streak, including their three postseason victories. And after beating Arizona, they are off to a 2-0 start this season. Seattle hasn’t lost since Week 11 of last season, when it suffered a 21-19 road defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in mid-November.

The Seahawks are 16-1 since Week 6 of last season and 25-5 since Week 11 of 2024, including the postseason.

Seattle also continued its dominance of the Cardinals on Sunday, beating its NFC West rival for the 10th straight time. The Seahawks are 12-1-1 on the road against Arizona since 2013.

Overall, Seattle is 16-2 on the road under third-year head coach Mike Macdonald.

With Darnold sidelined by a glute injury that he suffered on the opening series of Week 1, the Seahawks rode a familiar formula to victory – suffocating defense and another big performance from reigning NFL receiving leader Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Seattle held Arizona to just 150 total yards, which was the seventh-lowest mark by Arizona since 2000.

The Seahawks limited quarterback Jacoby Brissett to just 17-of-18 passing for 95 yards – an average of 3.4 yards per attempt. And they held Arizona’s rushing attack to just 70 yards on 17 carries, including just 29 yards on nine carries from running back Jeremiyah Love, the No. 3 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Smith-Njigba hauled in nine catches for 155 yards and three touchdowns. It was the first three-TD game of Smith-Njigba’s four-year career, and it was the fourth-most receiving yards of his career.

Lock completed 19 of 26 passes for 235 yards, three TDs and no interceptions. On Seattle’s second snap of the game, Lock hit a wide-open Smith-Njigba for an 82-yard touchdown, which was tied for the fourth-longest TD pass in Seahawks franchise history.

Seattle’s rushing attack also had a productive day, totaling 162 yards on 40 carries. Emanuel Wilson ran for 91 yards on 21 carries, while rookie Jadarian Price had 52 yards on 13 carries before exiting with a chest injury.
