Russell Wilson, the only Super Bowl-winning QB in Seattle Seahawks history, is rooting for Sam Darnold to join him in the history books.

Only one quarterback in Seattle Seahawks history has won a Super Bowl. And even though a lot has happened between Russell Wilson and the team in the years since, he’s rooting for the Seahawks and their new quarterback to win it all.
Stacy Rost: Sam Darnold meets the moment for Seahawks
Following the Seahawks’ NFC Championship win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday to clinch a spot in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, Wilson reacted on social media and shared a message for Seattle QB Sam Darnold.
“Sam Darnold’s comeback story over the past 2 years has been one of the most inspirational things to watch! Cool seeing him overcome!!!” Wilson wrote. “Congrats bro. Hope you win it!”
And then Wilson capped it off with a familiar phrase that Seattle sports fans haven’t heard from him in a long time.
“Go Hawks.”
You may recall that was usually the last thing Wilson said at the end of an interview or press conference during his 10 years with the Seahawks.

Wilson is right – Darnold’s comeback story is truly inspirational, as the 28 year old is on his fifth team already after unsuccessful attempts at starting early in his career for the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers. Darnold spent the 2023 season as a backup with the San Francisco 49ers, then had a Pro Bowl season as the Minnesota Vikings QB in 2024. But that year ended with back-to-back subpar games, including a playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
But Darnold picked himself up, replacing Wilson’s replacement in Seattle, Geno Smith, and going on to another stellar year. And Darnold has now the first two playoff wins of his career, including Sunday against those same Rams to send the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl since Wilson took them in back-to-back years over a decade ago.
As for Wilson, he was traded from Seattle to the Denver Broncos after the 2021 season, and his career has never been the same. He played 11 games in 2024 for the Pittsburgh Steelers and just six for the New York Giants in 2025, only three of which the 37 year old started.
But Wilson was the star QB during the most successful period in Seahawks history, and his post on Sunday by No. 3 could be seen as a passing of the torch of sorts to Darnold and the current Seahawks team.
