Report: Seahawks re-signing DT Johnathan Hankins

The Seattle Seahawks are re-signing veteran defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins to a one-year deal, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Tuesday afternoon.

How experts grade Seahawks’ 2025 draft class as a whole

Hankins, 33, had remained unsigned in free agency after appearing in all 17 games for Seattle last season in an early-down, run-stopping role. He gives the Seahawks some much-needed depth on the interior behind Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II.

Roy Robertson-Harris, who also spent last season in Seattle’s defensive tackle rotation, signed with the New York Giants in free agency. The Seahawks didn’t sign any interior defensive linemen in free agency. They drafted Notre Dame defensive tackle Rylie Mills in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, but it’s unclear whether he’ll be available for the start of the 2025 season after tearing his ACL last December.

Hankins played on 34.5% of Seattle’s defensive snaps last year. He recorded one sack, five tackles for loss, 30 tackles, a pass breakup and an interception. He received the lowest Pro Football Focus grade of his career, ranking 115th out of 118 qualified defensive tackles.

Hankins is heading into his 13th NFL season. Prior to signing with Seattle last March, he spent his first 11 seasons with the New York Giants, the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys.
