4 legendary Seahawks picks ranked among NFL’s best draft values since 2000

The core of the Seattle Seahawks’ back-to-back Super Bowl teams in 2013 and 2014 included several big-time draft steals.

Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor were both fifth-round picks. Russell Wilson was a third-round pick. And even as a second-round pick, Bobby Wagner was a major bargain.

Those four players combined for 26 Pro Bowl selections with the Seahawks and served as cornerstones for the greatest run of success in franchise history.

So it was no surprise that they were featured in NFL.com reporter Eric Edholm’s recent ranking of the league’s top five draft values at each position since 2000.

Sherman was ranked as the No. 1 draft value among cornerbacks, Wagner was No. 1 among linebackers, Wilson was No. 4 among quarterbacks and Chancellor was No. 5 among safeties.

The Seahawks were one of five teams to finish with at least four players in Edholm’s rankings. The Kansas City Chiefs led the way with five players, while the Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears had four apiece.

Here’s a closer look at the four Seahawks who made the cut.

Richard Sherman

• Fifth round, No. 154 overall (2011)
• Eric Edholm’s draft value ranking: No. 1 among cornerbacks

Sherman, the most recognizable figure in the Seahawks’ famed Legion of Boom secondary, was a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro over his seven seasons in Seattle. He totaled 32 interceptions and 99 pass breakups over that span, both of which were the most in the league. And of course, he delivered perhaps the most iconic play in franchise history.

Bobby Wagner

• Second round, No. 47 overall (2012)
• Edholm’s draft value ranking: No. 1 among linebackers

Wagner was another centerpiece of the Seahawks’ legendary Legion of Boom-era defense, which was the league’s top-ranked scoring defense for four straight seasons from 2012 to 2015. He racked up nine Pro Bowl selections and six first-team All-Pro nods over his 11 years in Seattle.

Russell Wilson

• Third round, No. 75 overall (2012)
• Edholm’s draft value ranking: No. 4 among quarterbacks

The 5-foot-11 Wilson quickly went from a third-round afterthought to one of the league’s top quarterbacks, earning nine Pro Bowl selections over his decorated 10-year run with the Seahawks. He received three top-four finishes in Offensive Player of the Year voting and piled up more than 37,000 passing yards, upward of 4,600 rushing yards and 316 total touchdowns during his decade in Seattle – while delivering countless Houdini-like plays and changing perceptions on what shorter QBs could accomplish in the NFL.

Kam Chancellor

• Fifth round, No. 133 overall (2010)
• Edholm’s draft value ranking: No. 5 among safeties

Chancellor was another late-round gem and integral piece of the Legion of Boom secondary. A 6-foot-3, 225-pound wrecking ball, Chancellor earned four Pro Bowl selections over his eight-year career and served as a punishing enforcer over the middle of the field.
