Wyman: Bears’ defense flipped the script on Seahawks

Former NFL linebacker Dave Wyman says Chicago's defense delivered the performance he expected Seattle's to on Monday night.

This is not what I expected from the Seattle Seahawks.

Instant Reaction | Seahawks lose | Box Score

You’re looking at 363 yards from the Bears’ offense and only 252 yards from the Seahawks’ offense. Seattle was also just 1 of 11 on third downs.

I thought the thing that jumped out the most to me is that’s exactly what the Bears did defensively is what I expected out of the Seattle Seahawks’ defense.

And it’s not just because of Jeffery Simmons. They were responsible on the edges and they were turning everything back in.

We had guys going under blocks. We had guys not setting the edge. And I find it hard to believe that Uchenna Nwosu, who was out with a ankle injury, is the single reason. He’s a great player, but this defense, just to me, that’s what stood out.

Seattle’s special teams also weren’t great, especially the one where you slide and knock the ball into the end zone on punt coverage. That should have been downed at the 1-yard line.

There’s so many things that happened, but a thing that stood out to me is I would say congratulations to the Bears’ defense because their defense played exactly the way that we play on defense. And we played like – I don’t even know. I don’t. This was unrecognizable as far as the defense goes.
