Seahawks announce signing of veteran edge rusher Fowler

The Seattle Seahawks have officially plugged a hole in their pass rush.

The team announced Monday that it has signed outside linebacker Dante Fowler Jr., who was reported to be in agreement with the Super Bowl champions last Tuesday.

The addition of Fowler gives the Seahawks a needed veteran replacement at edge rusher after losing Boye Mafe in free agency to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fowler was quoted in a Seahawks.com article Monday detailing his decision to join Seattle, and he mentioned two people in particular playing a role: his former Dallas Cowboys teammate DeMarcus Lawrence, and their former Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde, the current Seahawks defensive coordinator.

Fowler said that Lawrence told him, “If you want to win a Super Bowl, you should come here.”

As for Durde, who Fowler referred to as “Coach AD,” the two have a “really great relationship” that dates back to when Fowler played for Atlanta in 2020 and Durde the Falcons’ outside linebackers coach.

“So just being able to come and play for him again as a defensive coordinator is really cool,” Fowler said. “… He knows what he’s talking about, he’s a general, and he makes guys want to run through a wall for him. He knows what it takes, he knows how to push you to where you need to go, and he knows how to get the best out of his players.”

The 31-year-old Fowler had 3.0 sacks in 17 games for Dallas last year. In 2024 with the Washington Commanders, he made 10.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

Fowler, who checks in at 6 foot 3 and 261 pounds, was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 3 overall pick in 2015.
