Seahawks sign veteran edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr., per report

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday morning that the Seattle Seahawks and edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. have agreed on a one-year contract worth up to $5 million.

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly found their answer for a vacancy at edge rusher in Dante Fowler Jr.

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday morning that the Seahawks and Fowler have agreed on a one-year contract worth up to $5 million.

Edge rusher was the one need the Seahawks had that they did not address with their eight picks in the 2026 NFL Draft late last month.

Fowler, 31, was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 3 overall pick in 2015. The 6-foot-3, 261-pound defensive end has totaled 58.5 sacks, 74 tackles for loss and 15 forced fumbles over a 10-year career with the Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys.

Fowler spent the 2025 season with the Cowboys, recording 3.0 sacks in 17 games. In 2024, he piled up 10.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles with the Commanders.

Prior to that, Fowler totaled a combined 10.0 sacks in 2022 and 2023 during his first stint with the Cowboys. During those two seasons, current Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde was Dallas’ defensive line coach.

Fowler becomes the third former Cowboys defensive lineman to follow Durde to Seattle. Veteran nose tackle Johnathan Hankins signed with the Seahawks during the 2024 offseason and five-time Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence signed with Seattle during the 2025 offseason. Lawrence then was an integral part of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run this past season.

Seattle had a need at edge rusher after losing Boye Mafe to the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency. Fowler joins Lawrence, Derick Hall and Uchenna Nwosu as experienced edge rushers on the roster.
