Seahawks announce 5 captains for the Super Bowl

The Seattle Seahawks announced wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, cornerback Devon Witherspoon, fullback/special teams stalwart Brady Russell, veteran defensive lineman Leonard Williams and veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp as their captains for Super Bowl 60 against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Naming captains for each game is a tradition Mike Macdonald began when he took over as Seattle’s head coach in 2024. Under previous longtime head coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks had season-long captains.

Smith-Njigba, who was named the AP Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday night, led the league with a franchise-record 1,793 receiving yards this season, which was the eighth-most in a single season in NFL history.

Witherspoon and Williams are two of the biggest standouts on Seattle’s top-ranked scoring defense. Both were second-team All-Pro selections this season.

Russell is a centerpiece to the Seahawks’ elite special teams unit, having logged a team-high 396 special teams snaps this season. And Kupp has been an invaluable free agent addition with his veteran leadership, quality run blocking and clutch third-down receptions.

Radio coverage of the Super Bowl on Seattle Sports will begin with the Seahawks Radio Network pregame show at noon on Sunday, ahead of the 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Seattle Sports 710 AM, KIRO Newsradio 97.3 FM and the Seattle Sports, KIRO Newsradio and official Seahawks apps will be the only places where you can hear Steve Raible and Dave Wyman call the Super Bowl.
