Seahawks Inactives: Adams and Iupati out, Brooks and Hyde return

As was known, the Seahawks will be without star safety Jamal Adams and starting left guard Mike Iupati against the Cardinals in Week 7, but those two are the only injured players who are inactive in Arizona. Adams was ruled out on Friday and Iupati, initially listed as questionable, was ruled out on Saturday.

Adams is missing his third game in a row with a groin injury that he suffered in the second half of the Seahawks’ Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Starting in his place will likely be Ryan Neal, who has started the last two games at strong safety and has two interceptions this season. The Seahawks also promoted safety Damarious Randall from the practice squad this week.

As far as the offensive line goes, Iupati is out for the second game in a row with a back injury. Jordan Simmons will likely get the starting nod there as he did in Week 5. Also inactive on the offensive line is Kyle Fuller, who has been a healthy scratch since returning from a two-game suspension to start the season.
Also inactive for the Seahawks are receiver Penny Hart, tight end Luke Willson and defensive tackle Anthony Rush. Of those three, Rush is the biggest surprise as Seattle is carrying just three defensive tackles besides him on the current 53-man roster. Those three are Jarran Reed, Poona Ford and Bryan Mone. The Cardinals have a top-five rushing attack led by quarterback Kyler Murray and running back Kenyan Drake.
The Seahawks are also getting two notable players back in linebacker Jordyn Brooks and running back Carlos Hyde.
Brooks, Seattle’s first-round pick in the 2020 draft, missed the last two games with a knee injury he suffered in Week 3 in his first NFL start. During his Friday press conference, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll did not say whether Brooks would start at weakside linebacker over Cody Barton, but did say he expects Brooks to play a lot.
Hyde, a veteran who signed a one-year deal with Seattle this offseason, missed the last two games with a shoulder injury. With 2018 first-round pick Rashaad Penny with a knee injury, Hyde has been Chris Carson’s immediate backup on the depth chart. Hyde has a rushing touchdown already this year.
With Hyde back in action, it is the first time all season the Seahawks have four running backs on the active gameday roster. When Hyde was healthy the first three weeks of the season, rookie DeeJay Dallas was a healthy scratch while second-year back Travis Homer was active largely for his special teams play and kick returning.
For the Cardinals, they are also pretty healthy heading into the primetime showdown, with five backups making up their inactives list. Star receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who led the NFL in receiving heading into Week 7, is active. He was questionable with an ankle injury that has nagged him basically all season.

Most notable on the list is quarterback Brett Hundley, who used to be Russell Wilson’s backup for the Seahawks and who helped the Cardinals beat Seattle last season after Murray left with an injury in Week 16, and offensive tackle Josh Miles.
