RENTON – Sunday’s game between Seattle and Green Bay included a combined five personal-foul penalties and several heated exchanges, including one early in the third quarter between Packers right guard T.J. Lang and Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril.
Lang told reporters afterward that Avril punched him in the groin. The FOX broadcast noted that Lang was slow to get up following the play in question – a third down that Green Bay didn’t convert – and then showed Lang walking gingerly toward Avril, who was being held back by teammate Kam Chancellor. Lang then pleaded with referee Walt Coleman, asking him “Did you see that?” before walking off the field in obvious frustration.
Asked about Lang’s accusation on Monday, Avril first pretended to not know who that is. He then said: “Did anybody see whatever he’s talking about? OK, so in my head it didn’t happen then. I mean, I don’t know what he’s talking about, man. Stirring up the pot, I don’t know. He doesn’t like me. I don’t like him. It is what it is.”
It’s the second time in three weeks that one of Seattle’s defensive linemen has been accused of foul play. Tampa Bay center Joe Hawley said one of them spat in his face and that he thought it was rookie Jarran Reed but wasn’t sure. Reed denied that accusation.
