Ahead of the preseason opener, Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe received a personalized gift from the greatest QB in franchise history.
Rookie WR Tory Horton gains steam as potential Seahawks draft steal
Former longtime Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson posted Tuesday on social media a photo of Milroe smiling and holding an autographed No. 3 Wilson Seahawks jersey. The jersey included a personalized message from Wilson that read: “Jalen! You are going to be a star in NFL! You will love Seattle. Go be great!”
The gift appears to be part of a Fanatics promotion where various NFL rookies were surprised with personalized video messages and autographed jerseys from past and present NFL stars.

As many have noted, there are some interesting parallels between Wilson and Milroe.
Both were third-round draft picks by the Seahawks, with Wilson selected at No. 75 overall in 2012 and Milroe at No. 92 overall in April.
Also, both were drafted shortly after Seattle signed a QB to a multi-year deal in free agency. Wilson was drafted after the Seahawks signed Matt Flynn to a three-year, $26 million contract, while Milroe was drafted after the Hawks inked Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million deal.
Wilson, of course, famously beat Flynn for the starting job with a dazzling preseason and never looked back from there. He went on to earn nine Pro Bowl selections during his decorated 10-year run with Seattle, while breaking virtually every major franchise passing record in the process.
However, there also are some key differences between the two situations.
For one, Wilson was a far more polished and NFL-ready passer coming out of college than Milroe – who is a tantalizing athlete and an electric runner, but still a development project as a passer.
Also, Flynn was a far less-proven NFL starter than Darnold. When Flynn arrived in Seattle, he had just two career starts under his belt. Darnold, meanwhile, comes to Seattle with 38 career starts – including 17 last year during a breakout Pro Bowl season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Milroe is currently the No. 3 quarterback on the Seahawks’ depth chart, behind Darnold and backup Drew Lock. Milroe will likely get a lot of snaps in Thursday’s first preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Wilson, 36, is slated to be the New York Giants’ starting QB after spending last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
