Reports: Seahawks to hire 49ers’ Brian Fleury as new OC

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to hire San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach/run game coordinator Brian Fleury as their next offensive coordinator, according to reports from multiple NFL insiders on Sunday.

ESPN and NFL Network first reported the news.

Fleury would replace Klint Kubiak, who left the Seahawks following their Super Bowl victory to become the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

In hiring Fleury, the Seahawks are bringing in a coach with plenty of familiarity with the offensive system they ran under Kubiak. Fleury has spent the past seven seasons on San Francisco’s staff under head coach Kyle Shanahan, who runs a similar version of the offense Kubiak ran in Seattle. Fleury’s time with the 49ers included coaching alongside Kubiak in 2023 while Fleury was tight ends coach and Kubiak the offensive coordinator. He also spent five seasons with the 49ers coaching with Klay Kubiak, Klint’s younger brother, including this past season while Klay Kubiak was the offensive coordinator.

Fleury spent his first season in San Francisco as defensive quality control coach before moving to offensive quality control coach for two seasons. He became the tight ends coach in 2022 and added the title of run game coordinator this past season.

A college quarterback at Towson University, Fleury has held roles in football operations, serving as a Miami Dolphins football research analyst in 2016 and their director of football research from 2017-18. He also made coaching stops with Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns following a decade of coaching at the college level.

Fleury interviewed with the Seahawks on Saturday, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fleury is set to be the Seahawks’ fourth offensive coordinator in four seasons and the third since head coach Mike Macdonald was hired in January 2024. Former UW Huskies OC Ryan Grubb served as Seattle’s play-caller in Macdonald’s first season before the team pivoted to Klint Kubiak in 2025.

The reported hiring of Fleury comes after the Seahawks reportedly interviewed four internal candidates for the offensive coordinator position this week: quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, run game specialist/assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten and tight ends coach Mack Brown.

Schefter reported early Sunday afternoon that Janocko was interviewing for the Raiders’ offensive coordinator position. He later reported the Raiders finalized a deal with Janocko to make him their next OC.
