Report: Seahawks trading for Jets special teams standout

The Seattle Seahawks are trading a 2028 conditional seventh-round draft pick to acquire special teams standout Irvin Charles from the New York Jets, according to a report from The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt on Wednesday morning.

What stood out from Seahawks’ 1st OTA practice

Charles, a 6-foot-4, 219-pound wide receiver, logged 448 special teams snaps in 25 games with the Jets over the 2023 and 2024 seasons. As a standout gunner, he totaled 13 special teams tackles over that span, while posting an elite 90.3 Pro Football Focus special teams grade in 2023 and an 88.6 special teams grade in 2024.

Charles, 29, tore his ACL in December 2024 and missed the entire 2025 season. He has played sparingly on offense, logging just 53 offensive snaps over his two NFL seasons. He has no receptions on two targets.

Charles could provide competition to replace special teams stalwart and gunner Dareke Young, who departed in free agency for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Charles went undrafted after playing at Penn State and Division II-level Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
