Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tory Horton received some “good news” that could speed up the recovery timeline for his shin injury, head coach Mike Macdonald said after the team’s first OTA practice on Tuesday.
Seahawks coach on DeMarcus Lawrence: ‘He’ll be here’
Horton, who had five touchdown catches and a punt return TD over his first eight career games, missed the second half of his rookie season last fall after suffering a shin injury in Week 9. He underwent surgery in the offseason.
“Tory’s made a lot of great strides,” Macdonald said. “It seems like we got some feedback that can really accelerate his recovery, which is great. He deserves some good news. He’s been working really, really hard.”
Horton spent Tuesday’s voluntary practice watching from the sidelines, but Macdonald said there’s a chance the speedy wideout could participate in some capacity in Seattle’s June 9-11 mandatory minicamp, which marks the end of the NFL’s spring offseason workout program.
“There’s a chance that he could do some stuff toward the end of the spring,” Macdonald said. “We’ll see.”
Other injury updates
• Macdonald said running back Zach Charbonnet is “doing a great job” in his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered in Seattle’s divisional round playoff win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Charbonnet, who underwent surgery on Feb. 20, was on hand for Tuesday’s OTA practice.
Macdonald said the Seahawks will probably have a better idea of Charbonnet’s timetable by the start of training camp in late July. Earlier this spring, Macdonald said he expects Charbonnet to return at some point during the 2026 season.
“Zach’s doing a great job,” Macdonald said. “These things, I think they’re on their own timetable that’s hard to pin down right now. But we’ll be probably have a better idea as we circle back in July.”
• Tight end AJ Barner also watched Tuesday’s practice from the sidelines after playing through a handful of injuries during his breakout 519-yard, six-touchdown campaign this past season.
Though Barner didn’t miss any games, he appeared on the injury report with six different injuries over the final nine weeks of the regular season.
Macdonald expects Barner to return to practice by training camp.
“He’s had the things in the offseason, but he’s attacking it like AJ Barner does and as you would expect,” Macdonald said. “He’s itching to get out there. But we’ll probably see him come training camp time.”
• After missing both the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl with a neck injury, second-year fullback Robbie Ouzts appeared to be a full participant in Tuesday’s practice.
