The 6-foot-1, 197-pound Thomas was a seventh-round pick of out Yale in 2022 and has spent all four of his pro seasons with the Colts. He started 25 games over his first two seasons, but has been a backup and mostly played special teams while making only one start over the past two. He had 21 tackles and a tackle for loss last season while logging 150 snaps on defense and 278 on special teams.
Thomas’ best season came as a rookie in 2022 when he had 52 tackles, six passes defended and four interceptions, which are all career highs. His first career interception came in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos and former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
In 68 games as pro, the 27-year-old safety has 114 tackles, 10 passes defended, six interceptions and a tackle for loss.
Thomas was a three-year starter at Yale. He began his career as a defensive back before moving to linebacker and earning an All-Ivy League honorable mention in 2019. After Yale’s 2020 season was wiped out due to the COVID pandemic, Thomas moved to safety and earned first-team all-league honors while totaling 13 passes defended and two interceptions in his final college season.
The reported addition of Thomas comes after the Seahawks lost starting safety Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears in free agency. Seattle also re-signed safety AJ Finley, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, on Wednesday.
