SEATTLE – San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected for head-butting Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV during the second quarter of Sunday’s NFC West showdown.

Seahawks players on the bench immediately rushed to Darnold’s defense and began jawing with Greenlaw. The eighth-year linebacker responded by head-butting Jones, who didn’t have his helmet on.

Greenlaw received a 15-yard penalty for the late hit, but wasn’t flagged for the head-butt. However, The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reported that a new rule that allows the NFL’s league office to eject players for non-football acts even if they’re not flagged.
