How 2025 Seahawks would stack up historically with Super Bowl win
With a Super Bowl triumph next Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks could stake their claim as one of the most dominant NFL champions of the past quarter-century.

The Seattle Seahawks have a chance to claim their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history when they square off against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 on Sunday night.
They also have chance to stake their claim as one of the most dominant NFL teams of the past quarter-century.

After a franchise-best 14-win regular season and a pair of playoff victories, the Seahawks enter the Super Bowl at 16-3 and with a plus-230 point differential. According to Stathead, that’s the highest point differential for a team heading into the Super Bowl since the 2015 Carolina Panthers, who entered the big game at plus-233.
Of course, the 2015 Panthers went on to lose the Super Bowl, so this is all a moot point if Seattle doesn’t beat New England next weekend.
But if Sam Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba & Co. can dispatch the Patriots, where would the 2025 Seahawks stack up among the best Super Bowl champions in recent history? Here’s a quick look.
Since 2000, there have been eight Super Bowl champions with three or fewer losses. Those eight teams are listed below, along with their win-loss record and average point differential per game (including the postseason). The teams are ordered first by their loss total, and then by average point differential.
For reference, the 2025 Seahawks are also included in bold with their current record (16-3) and average point differential (plus-12.1).
• 2016 Patriots: 17-2, +12.3
• 2004 Patriots: 17-2, +11.1
• 2003 Patriots: 17-2, +6.6
• 2013 Seahawks: 16-3, +12.4
• 2025 Seahawks: 16-3, +12.1
• 2009 Saints: 16-3, +11.4
• 2024 Eagles: 18-3, +10.9
• 2017 Eagles: 16-3, +10.8
• 2022 Chiefs: 17-3, +7.0
If the Seahawks win on Sunday, they would finish 17-3 and join this group as the ninth Super Bowl champion since 2000 with three or fewer losses. And at a bare minimum, even if they only win by a single point, a victory would guarantee they finish with an average point differential of at least plus-11.55.
So, in that scenario, the 2025 Seahawks would place themselves roughly on par with the 2013 Seahawks and 2009 Saints – behind the trio of two-loss Patriots teams, but firmly among the top three-loss teams on this list.
Or, put another way: With a win on Sunday, the Seahawks would have a legitimate claim as one of the five or six best Super Bowl champions of the 21st century.
Again, none of this matters if Seattle doesn’t finish the job in Santa Clara. The 2007 Patriots seemed destined to stamp themselves as the greatest team in NFL history – until their perfect season ended with a blemish on the biggest stage.
But for these Seahawks, they have an opportunity not just to hoist the Lombardi, but to truly immortalize themselves among the best of the best.
