Son of former UW great commits to Huskies football program

The son of a UW Huskies legend is following in his dad’s footsteps.

Offensive lineman Tye Kennedy, the son of former Husky Lincoln Kennedy, announced his commitment to the UW football program on social media Wednesday.

“Continue a legacy built,” he wrote.

Kennedy, a product of Mountain View High School in Mesa, Ariz., is a three-star recruit for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports. He’s ranked as the No. 59 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 11 overall recruit in Arizona for his class.

Kennedy chose the Huskies over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Duke, Michigan, Stanford, TCU and Utah, among others.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound tackle is the Huskies 23rd commit and third on the offensive lineman for its ’27 recruiting class. The class is ranked No. 25 in the country, per 247Sports.

Lincoln Kennedy was one of the most dominant offensive lineman in UW history. He was a unanimous first-team All-American in 1992 and one of just three players to win the Morris Trophy (best Pac-10/Pac-12 offensive lineman) twice. He helped the Huskies win a national title under coach Don James in 1991.

The elder Kennedy went on to be a first-round pick (No. 9 overall) by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1993 NFL Draft and played 11 seasons with the Falcons and Oakland Raiders  He was three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro.

Lincoln Kennedy was elected to the Husky Hall of Fame in 2004 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

Tye Kennedy’s older brother Zach Banner, who went to Lakes High School near Tacoma, played four seasons in the NFL from 2017-21 with the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2017 draft out of USC.
