UW Huskies play-by-play voice leaving for Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tony Castricone, who spent the past nine years as the radio play-by-play announcer for the UW Huskies’ football and men’s basketball teams, is leaving to become the radio play-by-play voice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers announced the move Tuesday morning. Castricone succeeds legendary broadcaster Gene Deckerhoff, who retired after 37 seasons as the Bucs’ play-by-play announcer.

Castricone posted a video to social media thanking his family, friends, co-workers, players, coaches and fans.

“To you fans, you all make this the greatest setting in college football,” Castricone. “Thank you for welcoming in a kid from a 46-acre pine tree farm in Centerburg, Ohio, to the Pacific Northwest and making me one of your own. It has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to share the last nine years worth of fantastic memories with you.

“I will always be a Dawg until the day I die,” he added later in his closing remarks. “And do me a favor, beat the Ducks. Go Dawgs.”

Castricone is the latest to join what’s become a UW-to-Tampa pipeline of sorts.

The Buccaneers currently have five former Huskies on their roster: two-time Pro Bowl nose tackle Vita Vea, wide receiver Jalen McMillan, tight end Cade Otton, tight end Devin Culp and backup quarterback Jake Browing. Edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and defensive tackle Greg Gaines also played for the Buccaneers in recent seasons.
