New start time announced for Mariners’ series opener vs Nationals

First pitch of the Seattle Mariners’ series opener against the Washington Nationals on Friday is now scheduled for 5:55 p.m. Pacific Time, the Nationals announced.

The game, which was originally scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. first pitch at Nationals Stadium in Washington D.C., began in a weather delay due to severe thunderstorms in the D.C. area.

The area is under a severe thunderstorm watch through 8 p.m. and chances of rain sit at 30-40% throughout the evening, per AccuWeather.

The weather in the D.C. area is expected to clear up Saturday, with the forecast calling for clear conditions and a high of 92 degrees. However, thunderstorms are expected to return to the area in late Sunday afternoon. The clubs are set to play at 1:05 p.m. PT on Saturday and 10:35 a.m. PT on Sunday.
