The team’s top prospect delivered his first MLB hit in emphatic fashion, ripping a three-run home run just over the fence in the right field corner in the eighth inning of a 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The 20-year-old Emerson is now the 11th player in Mariners history whose first MLB hit was a home run. Oddly enough, the last player to do so was Jarred Kelenic (2021), who was the right fielder for Chicago who watched Emerson’s homer clear the fence.

It was an impressive swing from Emerson, who dug out an 81 mph changeup from Chicago reliever Trevor Richards on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, sending it 344 feet with an exit velocity of 97.2 mph out of the park.

Emerson, who was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, was hitless with a walk and a run scored in his first six plate appearances before the home run. He had struck out one time, though that was a bit of a technicality as it was a weak foul pop that Chicago catcher Drew Romo had to get out of his crouch and turn around to catch.

Emerson, ranked the No. 4 overall prospect in the game by Baseball America, had two strong flyouts to right field Sunday and had a 101.2 mph lineout to the third baseman in his first trip to the plate Monday. He’s also played confident defense at third base since his promotion to the big leagues.
