Mariners prospect Felnin Celesten showcasing newfound power

Highly touted Seattle Mariners shortstop prospect Felnin Celesten has remained on a tear in High-A Everett.
And now, he’s also showcasing an influx of power at the plate.

Celesten, who had a 25-game hitting streak earlier this season, has homered in four of his past eight games. The 20-year-old switch-hitter already has nine homers in 62 games with Everett this season – a notable uptick from his first two pro seasons in 2024 and 2025, when he hit a combined nine homers in 136 games.
Furthermore, Celesten is displaying that power from both sides of the plate, with five left-handed homers and four right-handed homers.
For the season, Celesten is slashing .310/.409/.491 for a .901 OPS. He leads the Northwest League in batting average and ranks second in both on-base percentage and OPS. He also has 16 stolen bases in 19 attempts.
Celesten, who is ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 97 overall prospect, has long been for his tantalizing five-tool potential. He signed with the Mariners for $4.7 million out of the Dominican Republic in 2023, which was the largest international bonus signing Seattle has ever made, according to Baseball America.
Celesten’s first two pro seasons were marred by injuries. He missed the entire 2023 season with a hamstring strain and then had his 2024 campaign cut short with a wrist injury that required surgery.
During his first full pro season in 2025, Celesten slashed .273/.345/.375 with six homers, three triples, 19 doubles, 21 steals and a .721 OPS across 104 games with Low-A Modesto and Everett.
Celesten has now built on that with an impressive 2026 campaign. At this rate, it may only be a matter of time before he earns a promotion to Double-A Arkansas.

Can he play third base as well. They have paid a lot to Colt Emerson so I would say he is not playing short stop and Cole Young is having a great year at second. Middle infielders doesn't seem to be a need for the Mariners. Now a power hitting defensive third baseman would be a need.
