Mariners prospect Felnin Celesten in pursuit of history with hit streak
The Everett AquaSox shortstop has a 24-game hitting streak that is approaching the Northwest League record.

The 2026 season is looking like the breakout year of Seattle Mariners prospect Felnin Celesten.
The 20-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic has emerged as a star for the High-A Everett AquaSox over the past month thanks to a hitting streak that has, in fact, now lasted an entire month.

With a one-out double in the seventh inning Wednesday night against the Tri-City Dust Devils, Celesten extended his hitting streak to 24 games.

The streak, which began on April 21, is now just four games short of the Northwest League record of 28 straight set in 2021 by Spencer Horwitz of the Vancouver Canadians. Horwitz is currently in his fourth MLB season, having established himself as the starting first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
If the switch-hitting Celesten keeps it going, he could tie Horwitz’s record as soon as the series finale with Tri-City at 4:05 p.m. Sunday night at Everett’s Funko Field, and break it Tuesday on the road against the Hillsboro Hops.
Celesten was a big name in the Mariners farm system upon his signing in 2023, which came with a franchise-record $4.7 million signing bonus. Injuries plagued him during his first two pro seasons and he dropped out of the MLB Pipeline and Baseball America top 100 rankings, but it seems likely he’ll be back on those lists soon based on his torrid hitting for the AquaSox.
Before Celesten started his hit streak, he had just a .167 batting average, .293 on-base percentage, .271 slugging percentage and .564 OPS in 13 games. Entering Thursday, he’s raised those marks to a .346 average, .445 on-base, .529 slugging and .974 OPS.
In 37 games this season entering Thursday, Celesten is tied for the Northwest League lead in hits (47), is second in each of average, on-base, OPS and runs scored (31), and is third in slugging. He also has four home runs, 11 doubles, a triple, 25 RBIs, eight stolen bases on 11 attempts, and 24 walks to 30 strikeouts.
Celesten and the AquaSox continue their home series vs. Tri-City, a Colorado Rockies affiliate, at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night.
