Mariners’ non-roster spring invites include top 2 picks of 2025

Seattle Mariners spring training will provide a chance to see some of their most recent MLB Draft picks up close.

The Mariners announced 34 non-roster invitees to big league spring training that starts next month in Peoria, Ariz., and two names stand out from the list: starting pitcher Kade Anderson and catcher Luke Stevenson.

The left-handed Anderson was taken No. 3 overall in the first round out of LSU by the Mariners in the draft last summer, while Stevenson was a second-round pick out of North Carolina.

Despite not having yet thrown a pitch as a professional, the 21-year-old Anderson is already the No. 21 overall prospect as ranked by MLB Pipeline and No. 25 prospect per Baseball America. Both outlets have him as the No. 2 prospect in Seattle’s farm system behind only shortstop Colt Emerson, who is also a non-roster invitee to spring training.

It is believed Anderson will have a short road to the big leagues after pitching the past two seasons in the SEC and leading LSU to the national championship last June, which included a complete game in a 1-0 win over Coastal Carolina in the College World Series finals.

Stevenson, 21, played 22 games for Single-A Modesto after being drafted by the Mariners last year, hitting .280 with four doubles, a triple, a home run and 23 walks for a .460 on-base percentage and .860 OPS.

A total of eight of the Mariners’ top 10 prospects as ranked by Baseball America have been extended invites.

The Mariners and the rest of MLB will have more opportunities for playing time in spring training than usual with the World Baseball Classic, which will run from March 4-17, taking many players out of camp.

Other notable players on Seattle’s list of non-roster invitees are former Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning and ex-Chicago Cubs third baseman Patrick Wisdom, who were recent minor league signings, as well as slugging outfield prospect Lazaro Montes and switch-pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje. Cijntje is listed as a right-handed pitcher in the announcement.
