Mariners place OF Luke Raley on injured list, call up Seattle native

The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list with a left forearm strain just over an hour before first pitch of their game Saturday against the Minnesota Twins at T-Mobile Park.

Raley has been dealing with the injury for “some time now” and it’s unclear if it will be a “short-term break or if more will need to be done,” Seattle Sports Mariners insider Shannon Drayer reported.

The IL stint is retroactive to Friday.

In a corresponding move, the M’s selected the contract of outfielder and Seattle native Stuart Fairchild from Triple-A Tacoma.

The 31-year-old Raley is batting .225 with a .723 OPS, 15 homers, nine doubles and one triple in 95 games for this season. He began his year on tear and hit 13 home runs by the end of May, but is batting just .152 with two homers in 39 games since June 1. He was held out of Friday’s series opener against the Twins due to the injury.

Fairchild is set for second stint in the majors with the club. He appeared in three games for his hometown team during the 2022 season, going 0 for 3 at the plate.

Fairchild, 30, posted a .158 batting average and .565 OPS in 14 games with the Cleveland Guardians earlier this year. He elected free agency after being outrighted to the minors by Cleveland and signed a minor-league deal with Seattle on July 5.

In 12 games with Triple-A Tacoma, Fairchild batted .262 with a 1.058 OPS, three homers, three doubles and two triples.
