Here’s what Rodríguez said in an Instagram story and on X:
“I’m incredibly honored that my peers voted me into the All-Star Game – that means a lot to me.
“As much as I would love to be out there, I want to take this time to take care of my body and fully prepare for the second half of the season.
“It’s definitely tough to miss out on the All-Star experience, but I’ll be cheering on all the guys and wishing them and their families an amazing week.”
Rodríguez also said “Thank you for all the support” and “Go Mariners” in a caption on X.

Rodríguez was named an All-Star reserve via the players ballot. It’s the third time in the 24-year-old center fielder’s four-year MLB career that he has made the American League All-Star team, though his selection this year has come with plenty of debate over how deserving it is.

While Rodríguez ranks 24th in MLB and fifth among AL outfielders with 3.1 WAR per Baseball Reference this season, a good portion of that figure comes from his defensive and baserunning contributions. He has struggled at the plate in 92 games, posting a slash line of .244/.301/.386 for a .687 OPS with 11 home runs, 15 doubles and three triples. His career-low OPS for a full season is .734 (2024), which he is well under for 2025.

Rodríguez and the Mariners have three games to go before the All-Star break begins Monday. They start the final series of the first half at Detroit’s Comerica Park at 4:10 p.m. Friday, with radio coverage on Seattle Sports beginning at 3 p.m. with the pregame show. The Mariners (48-45) are a game out of the AL’s third wild card and seven games back in the AL West, while the Tigers (59-35) are 13 games up for the AL Central lead.
