On Friday morning, the Seattle Mariners announced that Julio Rodríguez was withdrawing from the upcoming MLB All-Star Game to “recuperate, rest and prepare for the second half” of the season.
Since that announcement, he’s closed the first half on a tear.

On Friday night, Rodríguez blasted a 440-foot home run off Detroit Tigers ace and reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. On Saturday, he hit a 427-foot shot off Tigers reliever Keider Montero.
And in Sunday’s series finale, Rodríguez went deep again. Facing Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty in the third inning, Rodríguez went connected on a 1-2 fastball and sent a scorching line drive over the right-field wall at Comerica Park for his third home run in as many games. It came after Rodríguez just barely missed a homer earlier in the at-bat, when he hooked a first-pitch slider just outside the left-field foul pole.
It marks the second time in Rodríguez’s career that he’s homered in three straight games. He also achieved the feat in Aug. 26-28, 2023.
Prior to Friday, Rodríguez had gone 16 straight games without a home run and had only one homer in his past 40 games.
Rodríguez now has 14 home runs this season. He’s slashing .251/.311.414 with a .725 OPS.
Rodríguez also had an outfield assist in the bottom of the third, when he fielded a base hit from Riley Greene and fired a one-hop laser to throw out Gleyber Torres at third base. Third baseman Ben Williamson applied the tag to a sliding Torres, who was trying to advance from first to third.
