Mariners’ Cal Raleigh wins AL Player of the Week after 5-HR barrage

Cal Raleigh looked last week a lot like the 2025 version of himself, and the week is ending with a very 2025 Cal Raleigh kind of honor: the American League Player of the Week award.

The Seattle Mariners’ slugging catcher was named AL Player of the Week on Monday for the third time in his career after hitting .389 (7 for 18) with five home runs, a double, five walks and six RBIs over six games from Aug. 24-30.

Raleigh’s week was highlighted by the first three-homer game of his career last Tuesday in a 9-2 win in Seattle over the Philadelphia Phillies. It was just the second time in the history of T-Mobile Park, the Mariners’ home stadium dating back to 1999, that any player had hit three homers in a game.

Raleigh previously was named AL Player of the Week twice in June 2025.

The 29-year-old Raleigh hit 60 home runs in an historic 2025 campaign, which was the most ever in a single season by a catcher, a switch-hitter, and a Mariners player. He finished second in the AL MVP voting and helped the Mariners reach Game 7 of the ALCS, but he has struggled mightily this year, which included the first injured list stint of his career for an oblique strain.

In 103 games in 2026, Raleigh is hitting just .171 with 19 homers, nine doubles, 53 RBIs, a .288 on-base percentage and .641 OPS. He’s shown signs that he’s coming around in his last nine games, though, hitting .345 (10 for 29) with five homers and six walks to 10 strikeouts over that stretch.

Raleigh is the second Mariners player to win an AL Player of the Week award this season, following pitcher Logan Gilbert, who earned the honor in June.
