Mariners prospect Felnin Celesten on a tear for High-A Everett

The Seattle Mariners have so many prospects ranked in the top 100 in baseball, it’s easy for one to get lost in the shuffle.

That seemed to be the case with shortstop Felnin Celesten, who was ranked the No. 78 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline in January 2025 but didn’t crack the list this year.

He might find himself rising back up the board soon.

The 20-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic has been lighting up the High-A Northwest League with the Everett AquaSox early on this season. On Monday, Celesten earned his second straight Northwest League Player of the Week award.

Celesten, the No. 7 Mariners prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been on a tear over his last 11 games, going 16 for 40 (.400) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, eight walks and three stolen bases over the stretch. With his hot streak, the 6-foot-1 switch-hitter has raised his slash line from .167/.293/.271 (.564 OPS) to .295/.407/.420 (.827 OPS).

Celesten was seen as the jewel of Seattle’s international signing class in 2023. He started strong in 2024, slashing .352/.431/.568 for a .999 OPS in 32 games in the Arizona Complex League, and was decent last year in 93 games with Single-A Modesto (.285/.349/.384, .733 OPS). But his 11 games in High-A last year (.158/.313/.289, .602 OPS) were rough, and that continued into the early part of this season.

He seems to have shaken off those struggles, though, as he enters the week with an 11-game hitting streak while leading the AquaSox with 26 hits and 18 runs scored.

Celesten and the AquaSox will open a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against the Hillsboro Hops.
