Why an Etsy witch may have helped the Mariners snap their skid

The Seattle Mariners rose to life over the weekend, punishing Atlanta Braves pitching for 28 runs on 31 hits and 10 home runs on Saturday and Sunday combined to score their first win in a road series since the All-Star break.

It turns out the M’s may have had some mystical help to snap out of a skid that was threatening to cost them the playoff spot they currently hold onto.
Let us introduce you to concept of an Etsy witch. And yes, that is exactly what it sounds like – a witch you can purchase a spell from on Etsy, a website that serves as a marketplace specializing in letting users buy and sell vintage or handmade crafts. Or in this case, a boost from a supernatural source.
On Friday afternoon, just before the Mariners lost their fourth straight and for the sixth time in seven games, an X user under the handle @notB0bR055 posted that they had paid an Etsy witch to cast a spell to end the M’s woes.
On Saturday morning, they posted an update with a screenshot of correspondence with SpellByLuna on Etsy, confirming the purchase of a $19.99 spell (with a $4 “shop discount”) to help the Mariners “get their act together and start winning baseball games again, and hopefully make their way to the World Series and win.”
SpellByLuna’s response reads in part: “I completed my spell with my best materials for you. It was a ritual process full of beautiful energies, dear, everything is fine. Now all you need to do is to stay positive and accept the manifestation of the spell.”

What followed was some of the best baseball the Mariners have played all season, with Sunday’s game in particular standing out. The 18-2 win saw the M’s score their most runs in a game in 13 years (interesting number there for you superstitious types), when they beat the Texas Rangers 21-8 on May 30, 2012. Seattle also won back-to-back games for the first time since Aug. 24.
The Mariners themselves took notice, sharing this post on X after Sunday’s win that made mention of the Etsy witch that had quickly become a phenomenon among M’s fans on social media.

The Mariners franchise is no stranger to turning to superstition to help its cause. Their original inverted trident logo, which is now part of their City Connect uniforms, is a sign of bad luck in Greek mythology – it’s the same idea as an inverted horseshoe – which is at least partially why then-Mariners owner George Argyros had the team’s original logo changed in 1987.
