Mariners announce 4 coaches will not be back in 2027
The Mariners announced they are parting ways with bench coach Manny Acta, infield coach Perry Hill, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer and first base coach Eric Young Jr.

The Seattle Mariners are moving on from four members of the coaching staff, the team announced Monday morning.
Bench coach Manny Acta, infield coach Perry Hill, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer and first base coach Eric Young Jr. will not not return for the 2027 season.

The changes come a day after it was announced that Sunday’s season finale was the last game for Dan Wilson as Mariners manager.
“I will always have the utmost respect and appreciation for these men, each of whom made meaningful contributions to our team,” Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in a press release announcing the coaching staff moves. “After much reflection, we have determined that significant changes are required as we look toward 2027 and beyond.”
A season after winning the AL West and reaching the American League Championship Series, the Mariners finished third in the division with a 76-86 record. It was their first losing record in a full season since 2019.
Acta was the longest-tenured member of Seattle’s coaching staff, having joined the Mariners in 2016 as third base coach. He was bench coach from 2018-19 and 2025-26, and third base coach from 2016-17 and 2020-24. Acta was manager for Washington (2007-09) and Cleveland (2010-12) prior to coming to the Mariners.
Hill had an eight-year tenure with the Mariners, beginning in 2019 as both first base and infield coach. He was solely the infield coach from 2022-26. He oversaw Gold Glove-winning seasons by shortstop J.P. Crawford (2020), first baseman Evan White (2020) and utility player Dylan Moore (2024) during his time in Seattle.
Seitzer joined the Mariners as hitting coach in 2025. A one-time All-Star as a player who led the American League in hits in 1987, Seitzer was previously hitting coach for Atlanta from 2015-24.
Young spent the past two years as Seattle’s bench coach after serving as the organization’s baserunning coordinator in 2024. He was a utility player for 10 MLB seasons and joined the coaching ranks in 2021 with the Tacoma Rainiers, the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate. He also was on the Washington coaching staff from 2022-23.
MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported Sunday that Mariners director of pitching strategy Trent Blank and pitching coach Pete Woodworth will return in 2027, with both under contract through the 2028 season.

Really bummed to hear about EYJ2 going. Baserunning was better with him over there. 3rd base coach was more in need of addressing. Edgar is not going to hang around, so I'm not sure losing Seizer is a good thing. And Perry Hill? Has anyone thought that he was anything, ever, but a huge asset? I have a very heavy sinking feeling this front office has learned nothing.
It makes sense since the new manager will want his own people in there. This gives them an early jump on the openings happening in the next 4 weeks. They tried, but we just couldn't get there with this management team. I will not even look in the direction of Dipoto or Holland. Nope, not looking at them at all.
