Montes, Anderson among Mariners’ minor league award winners

The Seattle Mariners announced their minor league award winners for the 2026 season on Saturday.

Below is a look at the honorees. All prospect rankings are according to MLB Pipeline.

• Co-Ken Griffey Jr. Hitter of the Year – OF Lazaro Montes

Montes, 21, slashed .249/.369/.558 with a .927 OPS, 38 homers, 24 doubles, one triple, eight stolen bases, 79 walks and 166 strikeouts in 123 minor league games across Double-A and Triple-A. He was tied for third in home runs across all levels of the minors. Montes was named the Texas League Hitter of the Month in June.

A 2022 international free agent signing, Montes was promoted to the majors on Sept. 1. In 20 games at the big-league level entering Saturday, he had a .204/.291/.469 slash line with a .760 OPS, four homers, one double, six walks and 24 strikeouts. His first stint in the majors has included hitting a 474-foot home run at T-Mobile Park, the longest in the ballpark’s history.

This is Montes’ third straight year being named the organization’s minor league hitter of the year. He is the the Mariners’ fifth-ranked prospect and No. 53 in baseball.

• Co-Ken Griffey Jr. Hitter of the Year – OF Jarvis Gomez

In his first year of pro baseball, Gomez, 17, produced a .368/.467/.546 slash line with a 1.013 OPS, six homers, nine doubles, one triple, 17 stolen bases, 29 walks and 26 strikeouts over 48 games with the Dominican Summer League Mariners. He reached base in 47 games and finished sixth in the DSL in the batting average and 16th in OPS.

Gomez, an international free agent signing in January, is Seattle’s 29th-ranked prospect.

• Jamie Moyer Pitcher of the Year – LHP Kade Anderson

Anderson, 22, put together one of the greatest minor league pitching seasons of all time, posting a 10-1 record with a 1.06 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 135 strikeouts to 13 walks over 93 1/3 innings in 18 starts with Double-A Arkansas. He held opponents to a .147 batting average and allowed one run or fewer in 15 of his 18 outings. Anderson led all levels of the minors (minimum 90 innings pitched) in ERA, WHIP, strikeout rate (40.5%) and strike-to-walk ratio (10.38 to 1). The left-hander was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Month in June and pitched in MLB’s All-Star Futures Game in July.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 draft was called up to the majors Aug. 22. In six starts entering Saturday, he had a 2-2 record, 4.18 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 28 strikeouts to eight walks over 32 1/3 innings.

Anderson is the Mariners’ top-ranked prospect and No. 5 in baseball. He’s also the top-ranked pitching prospect league-wide.

• Alvin Davis “Mr. Mariner” Award – INF Charlie Pagliarini

Pagliarini, 25, had a .265/374/.498 slash line with an .872 OPS, 27 homers, 29 doubles, three triples, 81 walks and 175 strikeouts over 130 games for Double-A Arkansas. He finished in the top five in the Texas League in runs scored (95), doubles, home runs, RBIs (91) and walks. He was also seventh in OPS.

A 19th-round pick in the 2023 draft, Pagliarini is an unranked prospect in Seattle’s farm system.

• Dan Wilson Community Service Award – INF Patrick Wisdom

Wisdom, 35, was heavily involved in community service while with Triple-A Tacoma, including visiting youth baseball leagues, Boys & Girls Clubs and the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma. A 2024 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award during his time with the Chicago Cubs, Wisdom also provided plenty of souvenirs for fans at Pacific Coast League ballparks, clubbing a league-high 35 homers in just 81 games.

• Edgar Martinez “Dominate The Zone” Tournament Award (hitter) – OF Sammy Siani

Siani, 25, slashed .245/.302/.392 with a .694 OPS, seven homers, six doubles, two triples, 17 stolen bases, 19 walks and 50 strikeouts in 69 games at Double-A. He closed his season on a 15-game on-base streak where he batted .421 with five home homers and three doubles.

• “Dominate The Zone” Tournament Award (pitcher) – RHP Jackson Steensma

Steensma, 22, had an 0-6 record, 4.57 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while striking out 61 batters and walking 10 over 43 1/3 innings in 15 outings (12 starts) for Single-A Inland Empire. The 2025 ninth-round pick was one of just six Class-A pitchers to post a K/9 over 12.00 and WHIP below 1.10, and the only with a sub-2.10 BB/9. He walked more than one batter in only one outing and allowed zero walks in seven, including five starts.

Steensma is Seattle’s 22nd-ranked prospect.

• Dave Henderson Staff Member of the Year – DSL Mariners manager Luis Matias

Matias led the DSL Mariners to a 33-23 record and the first round of the playoffs in his second season as the club’s manager. Matias has worked in the organization since 2015 and was also an infielder in the Mariners’ system from 2009-12.
