The Seattle Mariners are going a new route as they shuffle their bullpen after a rough series opener in Houston.
Rookie right-hander Blas Castano has received his first call up to the show, with the 26 year old being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.

To make room on Seattle’s active roster, veteran right-hander Jesse Hahn has been designated for assignment.
The 5-foot-10 Castano has been in the Mariners farm system since signing with the organization in August 2023. He initially signed with the Yankees as an international free agent in 2018.
In 2025, Castano has spent the majority of the season pitching as a starter with the Tacoma Rainiers. In 10 appearances (seven starts), Castano is 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 19 walks over 44 2/3 innings.
Hahn, 35, has appeared in three games for Seattle this season, including an inning pitched in Thursday’s 9-2 loss to the Astros. He allowed three earned runs, which were the first runs he had allowed in either MLB or Triple-A this year. The Mariners previously designated Hahn for assignment in April, after which he elected free agency and returned on a minor league deal.
Also on Friday, the Mariners announced that veteran righty reliever Casey Lawrence, who was designated for assignment earlier this week – and for the fifth time this season – has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A. It is likely he will now elect free agency. In the four cases this year where Lawrence has been DFA’d and then elected free agency, he has returned to Seattle on a minor league contract.
Game 2 of the Mariners’ four-game series in Houston is set for a 5:10 p.m. Friday first pitch, with radio coverage on Seattle Sports beginning at 4 with the pregame show.
