Seattle Mariners veteran shortstop J.P. Crawford is out of the lineup again for Sunday afternoon’s series rubber match against the Detroit Tigers.
Mariners will have one big advantage at trade deadline
Crawford has been out since exiting Friday night’s series opener after being hit in the hand on a 96 mph sinker from starting pitcher Framber Valdez in the third inning. X-rays after the game were negative, according to Mariners manager Dan Wilson.
Mariners insider Shannon Drayer reported that Crawford played catch Sunday morning, and that Triple-A Tacoma infielder Ryan Bliss is with the team in Detroit in case he needs to be called up.

Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo (5.53 ERA) will take the mound for his first traditional start since May 14. Castillo’s past three outings came in a “piggyback” role with Bryce Miller – a strategy the club went with to address having six healthy starting pitchers following Miller’s return from the IL.
For at least the next two times through the rotation, the Mariners are going with a six-man rotation instead of the “piggyback” approach, with the club currently in a stretch of 16 games in 17 days.
Right-hander Jack Flaherty (5.31 ERA) will start for Detroit.
First pitch is at 10:40 a.m. Radio coverage on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app begins with the pregame show at 9:30 a.m.
