Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez was going through concussion protocol after being pulled from Thursday’s 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels early, manager Dan Wilson told reporters game.

Rodríguez, who was attempting to get from first to second on a grounder, was struck in the back of his batting helmet by a throw to second by Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel in the bottom of the first inning. Rodríguez advanced to third after the ball ricocheted into the outfield and remained in the game after a lengthy meeting with manager Dan Wilson and a team trainer.

The center fielder eventually went back to the clubhouse with a trainer during the bottom of the second.

“We’ll take a look and see how he is in the morning and kind of assess a little bit more then,” Wilson said.

Victor Robles, who came in as a defensive replacement for Rodríguez in the top of the third, left the game soon after following a hit by pitch.

In his first at-bat after replacing Rodríguez, Robles was plunked in the arm by 98 mph fastball from Angels starter Walbert Ureña in the bottom of the third and initially stayed in the game following a meeting with a trainer but was replaced by Weston Wilson in the top of the fifth. Wilson took over in right field and Luke Raley slid over to center field.

Wilson said X-rays on Robles came back negative.

“He was in a lot of pain there in that forearm-wrist area,” Wilson said. “So we’ll kind of assess when we get (to the park) in the morning.

“Obviously, tough blows. No question. But we’ve been dealing with it for a while now and we’ll just have to keep pushing,” Wilson added.

The Mariners received another scare early in Thursday’s game but avoided further harm.

Left fielder Randy Arozarena was also hit on the elbow guard by a 98 mph fastball Ureña in the bottom of the first, but the left fielder remained in the game.
