The Seattle Mariners were able to flush one of the more embarrassing losses in franchise history rather quickly.

A day after falling in a 22-0 drubbing at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Mariners responded with their best start to a game offensively this year en route to a bounce-back 7-5 road win over the team with the best record in baseball.

Seattle, which improved to 60-67, erupted for all seven of its runs over the first two innings and sent 16 batters to the plate in the process, both of which were their highest marks through two innings of any of their 117 games played this year.

Perhaps most surprising of all is the homer-reliant Mariners were able to do all that damage without hitting a ball out of the park.

It all started with a four-run first inning against Brewers right-hander Dustin May.

After back-to-back singles from Brendan Donovan and Randy Arozarena to start the game, Dominic Canzone stayed on a fastball at the top of the zone and sharply lined a double into the left-center field gap for a 2-0 run lead.

May was able to get the next two Mariners out but Cole Young and Cal Raleigh followed with two-outs walks and Taylor Ward punched a single into right field to drive in Canzone and Young.

Donovan got the Mariners going again with another leadoff single in the second and came around to score on a bases-loaded sac fly from Julio Rodríguez that made it 5-0.

Josh Naylor added two more runs with a single to right field to plate Arozarena and Canzone for a 7-0 lead.

Between the two innings, the Mariners’ Nos. 1, 2 and 3 hitters reached base in all six plate appearances, which included five hits, scored six runs and drove in two.

The early offensive outburst was enough to back Logan Gilbert, who earned his 10th win after allowing three over five innings.
